Hettie Geering
My passion for teaching was inspired by a wonderful primary school teacher and the challenges posed by my secondary school educators. This ignited my love for learning and motivated me to share this passion with future generations. Over the past decade, my career has spanned secondary and primary education, and SEND teaching. My transition to primary teaching was driven by a desire to connect with younger learners and foster their holistic development, leading me to work as an LSA and then as a class teacher in both mainstream and Steiner education settings.
Throughout my journey, I gained significant experience in adapting teaching approaches for diverse needs, especially in SEND environments. I developed skills in planning and delivering creative, inclusive lessons tailored to each student’s unique abilities and aspirations. My time at a SEND school where I supported high-need students, deepened my understanding of emotional literacy, social skills, and creative teaching methods. Later, I successfully guided a Year 9 class in a struggling SEND school, helping students achieve academic milestones and personal growth.
In all my roles, I prioritised differentiation, building strong relationships, and fostering a safe, engaging learning environment. My commitment to lifelong learning and ongoing professional development has allowed me to refine my practice and achieve measurable improvements in student outcomes. Volunteering with The Wave Project as a Surf Mentor further enriched my understanding of diverse needs and strengthened my drive to make a positive difference.
This rich and varied experience has prepared me to become a tutor. I am passionate about personalising learning to meet individual needs, building confidence, and inspiring students to reach their full potential. My holistic approach ensures that students not only achieve academically but also develop the skills and resilience needed for lifelong success.
